ternal Combustion Engines: Thermodynamics and Emissions ICE-T/E (formerly ICE2)
The lecture initially covers the gas exchange process of different internal combustion engines (four-stroke and two-stroke engines, Wankel engine). The influence of pressure wave dynamics (aeroacoustics) on gas exchange is shown. Furthermore, different supercharging and turbocharging systems and their impact on engine performance and efficiency are examined.
Various mixture formation processes are presented. Port fuel injection systems for gasoline engines as well as direct injection systems for gasoline and Diesel engines are described.
Pollutant formation on Diesel and gasoline engines is discussed. Exhaust aftertreatment systems are introduced.
Finally, electronic engine management and engine acoustics (noise, vibration and harshness) fundamentals are presented.
